1. Purchase a notebook computer with a sufficient large screen
Notebook computer typically comes with a 12.1-inch, 13.3-inch, 14.1-inch, 15.4inch, or 17-inch display. For most users, a 14.1-inch display is satisfactory. If you intend to use your notebook computer as a replacement for a desktop computer, you might need a larger screen, 15.4-inch or 17-inch display may be appropriate. However, if you travel a lot and carrying a laptop is essential for you at anytime, you should need a smaller display and lightest notebook computer. 13.3-inch and less than 2 kg is preferable. Regardless of the size of display, the resolution must be at least 1024 X 768 pixels.

2. Make sure the notebook computer you purchase has at least a DVD drive

3. Processor, Memory and Disk Storage
Your notebook computer should be at least 2.4 GHz processor. In more advance processor with Intel® Dual-Core, Intel® Core™2 Duo, AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 and more choices if you have more budget for your expectation. A minimum requirement of 512 MB RAM and at least 80 GB of disk storage.

4. Purchase a notebook computer with a built-in wireless network connection
A wireless network connection can be useful when you travel or as part of a home network. Increasingly, more airports, hotels, and cafes have wireless network that allow you to connect to the Internet.

5. Choose a lithium-ion battery for your notebook computer.
If you anticipate running your notebook computer on battery frequently, choose a lithium-ion battery, which has longer live period than nickel cadmium or nickel hydride batteries.

At last you can improve your security of your personal notebook computer with a fingerprint scanner. If you have important data or information stored in your notebook computer and you not allow people open it, consider purchasing one with a fingerprint scanner to protect your data from being stolen, modify or lost.
